Ethos

Our ethos is upheld through our Core Values - The Wolf, The Eagle, The Salmon and The Dolphin - which underpin every aspect of teaching at Sandwich Junior School and the expectations of our children.

The Wolf Pack:

We believe that every child and every adult in our school is a valued member of the Wolf Pack, ensuring that every individual in our school community feels valued and secure, regardless of gender, race, creed, age or ability.

At Sandwich Junior School we aim for our children to feel part of a team in which they will grow and develop in an environment where they are listened to and respected, as well as being cared for and given secure boundaries.

Pupils are surrounded with a belief that we should radiate positively towards others, always maintaining the following values:

  • Telling the truth
  • Keeping promises
  • Respecting the rights and property of others
  • Acting considerately towards others
  • Helping those less fortunate and weaker than ourselves
  • Taking personal responsibility for their actions
  • Self-discipline

By encouraging the above we aim to create citizens with high levels of self-esteem and confidence, who have both tolerance and respect for others and caring and responsible attitudes towards everything around them. They will truly be equipped to take their place in both their local and global community.

High-Flying Eagles:

At Sandwich Junior School, we pride ourselves on the high level of expectation and the pride that pupils put into their work. This is a consistent excitement to produce amazing pieces of work that weaves its way through all aspects of the curriculum. Success is regularly celebrated and children strive to achieve their very best. Every new day is a chance for our pupils to climb to the top of the steps to success and fly high like and eagle!

Resilient Salmon:

Nothing stands in the way of a Sandwich Junior School child when they set their mind on a challenge. No matter where their starting point is, children are encouraged to take risks and break down barriers in order to make progress. With the support of staff and their peers, the children of Sandwich Junior School build their resilience and persevere like a salmon, even against the strongest tides, to reach their goals.

Playful Dolphins:

Children learn the most when they are having fun, which is why we encourage our pupils to approach work with a sense of humour and a thirst to try new and exciting activities. Opportunities are always provided at Sandwich Junior School to show a child’s unique personality and to keep children glued to their work.

By providing a happy and stimulating learning environment that enables each child to develop his or her full potential, we aim to equip our pupils with the necessary attitude, knowledge and skills to cope with life in a fast changing world.

Our Values

At Sandwich Junior School, the pupils and staff uphold our Core Values, which are at the centre of our school ethos and all that we do. They were first established by the pupils of our school, who chose specific animals that they felt represented the values and attitudes they should show every day, at school and at home:

The Wolf

Working together as a Wolf Pack, we are a community. Helping peers in difficult times, and celebrating our successes.

The Salmon

We always try our best – showing resilience, we never give up. We are always striving to reach the top and take risks with learning, as that is when we make our biggest leaps forward.

The Eagle

Aiming high to achieve the best we can be, and soaring high to reach our potential.

The Dolphin

When children enjoy their learning, they will achieve more.
